Little Troopers Treasures

Little Troopers Treasures is a project LTT partnered with Harper Collins, to bring children's books to forces families, currently there are nine books available to record.

> The service family downloads the app then creates a family login, the service person then logs in wherever they may be (WIFI needed) or before they go away and records some stories, the app captures their face, voice and the book pages.

> Once done the app zips up the story with lots of love and immediately the service child can go to the Little Trooper mode of the family login and there will be a surprise story waiting! They can watch the stories, or listen, over and over again.

> There are also some free supporting resources for families to accompany this app, a weekly planner sheet to print off and use plus separation diaries for both parent and child to complete while separated and then share once reunited.

All the information and download links plus the resources files to print off can be found HERE

Royal British Legion - Best Practice Guide - Support Service Children in School in England

Click HERE
to view and/or download the Guide
The Royal British Legion has produced a new best practice guide focusing on Service children in school.
The guide looks at some of the big challenges facing Service children today and by sharing examples of good practice from across England (a separate Wales version will shortly be ready), recommends ways in which local authorities, schools and families themselves can improve the experience of Service children in education. Problems associated with admissions into schools and the adverse effects on a Service pupil’s wellbeing are explored, alongside information on the extra funding available to Service children through the Service Pupil Premium, Education Support Fund and more. Key recommendations include:
  • Encouraging schools to be creative with the use of funding available for Service pupils and share ideas and practice through networks of schools with Service children on the roll.
  • Suggesting that local authorities facilitate collaboration between schools, local military units, and local authority staff to ensure that everyone is aware of the challenges faced by Service children and what can be done to address them.
  • Encouraging Service families to make use of help available from the Ministry of Defence, Department of Education and charities and other organisations such as The Royal British Legion and the three families federations.

SFA - Compensation Scheme

How to Claim:
For a missed appointment, the occupant must apply using the appropriate template form via DIO SD Accommodation intranet site within 14 days of the occurrence, or via SFA external gov.uk website with the required structured information within the same timeframe.
Evidence must be provided to support the claim (where available).
For significant defects at move in, the details must be captured at that time on the Occupancy 1 Form, (or alternative Move in Form for those in SSFA) and must include the IP and/or DIO agreed course of action. If you have access to DII, then claims for compensation should be submitted on the template form available at the following link (MOD systems only):
NB: Please open the compensation form using Internet Explorer (IE) as your browser - not Google Chrome: http://defenceintranet.diif.r.mil.uk/…/SFA-CustomerCompensa…
If you don’t have access to DII, then a compensation claim can be made by email.
Email the DIO SFA Customer Compensation team setting out your compensation claim so that you include:
• The date of the appointment you are claiming for.
• Your name and telephone number.
• The SFA address relating to your compensation claim.
• The reason for your claim i.e. either a missed appointment or a significant defect(s) at move in.
• Any additional information to support your claim (including any photographic evidence).
For claims relating to missed appointments, please provide Job Reference Number, date and time of notification of postponement/cancellation by contractor along with any other relevant details.

SSAFA Stepping Stone Homes

SSAFAs Stepping Stone Homes based in both the North East and the South of England provide short-term supported accommodation, help and advice to female service or ex-serving personnel, the female spouses or partners of serving or ex-serving personnel, and their dependent children.

Support is also provided to women without children or whose children may be living elsewhere temporarily, those seeking accommodation due to welfare needs, and Foreign & Commonwealth cases. The above list is not exhaustive. Each case will be considered individually.

Our homes provide a comfortable, secure and female-only place to stay for as long as it takes the resident to get back on their feet. From our clean and well-maintained communal spaces to private areas for each resident to make their own, we make our houses like home for however long the resident is with us.

The schemes are also registered with local authorities as refuges for those fleeing domestic abuse and, as such, their locations are not to be disclosed to the public. Referrals can be made via the email addresses below:

The 2017 Families Continuous Attitude Survey (FAMCAS)

The 2017 Families Continuous Attitude Survey (FAMCAS) provides the opportunity for Army spouses/civil partners to express their views about a range of issues that affect their life as a Service family. The evidence provided by these views is a vital source of information that assists the Army in developing future personnel policy.

To support this process, it is important that the collective views of spouses/civil partners of Officers and Soldiers alike are communicated to the wider Army.
